Western Diagnostic Pathology is located at Myaree, Western Australia and invites applications from suitably qualified Medical Scientists with appropriate experience for the vacant Chief Scientist position in the Cytology Department.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the diagnostic unit that employs 25 scientific and technical staff. You also oversee and participate in the diagnostic service working closely with the Head of Department and additional consultant staff who contribute to the diagnostic cytology service. You will be responsible for management of the quality system essential for the ongoing accreditation of the Department.
The Cytology Department reports on gynaecological samples and a broad range of non-gynaecological specimens and is highly regarded as a centre of excellence for training Cytologists and Pathology Registrars. There is a strong commitment by the laboratory to the continuing education of its scientific staff who participate in RCPA QAP and in house programs and also at local branch and National ASC meetings.
The preferred applicant will have substantial experience in gynaecological and non-gynaecological cytology. It is essential that the successful candidate has previous experience in staff management, possesses an understanding of OH&S and equal employment legislation, and has well developed communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
A generous remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
