What is CytologyNet?


CytologyNet is a Listserver discussion list to discuss Cytology issues. It is run on behalf of the Australian Society of Cytology Inc. by the web master of the ASC. Any discussion taking place on the list do not necessarily reflect the opinions or policy of the ASC.

Any list of addresses of members subscribed to CytologyNet will not be given or sold to any third party under any circumstance.


What is a Listserver discussion list?


A Listserver list is an e-mail forum for discussion of a chosen topic amongst members who have subscribed to the list.

There are various ways a Listserver can be configured. CytologyNet has been set up to be 'open' and 'unmoderated'.


Who can post messages?


Any member who has subscribed to the list can post messages. Messages from people who are not subscribed will not be sent to the list members.


How do I join?


To subscribe to the list you need to send a blank e-mail, from the address you wish to receive e-mail from the list, to cytologynet-subscribe@cytology-asc.com You will receive a confirmation e-mail to which you must 'reply' to confirm your desire to join the mailing list. Following confirmation you will receive a 'Welcome' e-mail message.

Alternatively, you can enter your e-mail address in the box on the CytologyNet page, choose 'Add to mailing list' and click the submit button. This will not result in a confirmation e-mail message.


How do I quit?


To quit the list you need to send a blank e-mail, from the address you have been receiving e-mail from the list, to cytologynet-unsubscribe@cytology-asc.com

Alternatively, you can enter your e-mail address in the box on the CytologyNet page, choose 'Remove from mailing list' and click the submit button.


How do I send a message to the list?


Once a user is a member they can send email addressed to cytologynet@cytology-asc.com Their message will automatically be sent to all the members of the mailing list.


Can I reply privately to an individual?


Yes you can reply privately to an individual as e-mail sent via the list is identified as from the original poster. The subject title is preceded by to show it has been sent via the CytologyNet Listserver.
However, in most cases it is preferable to reply via CytologyNet as you are then sharing your answer with other members who may be seeking answers to the same question.


What other commands can I send to the Listserver?


CytologyNet-subscribe@cytology-asc.com
Will allow the user to Subscribe to the mailing list.
The user will be sent a Confirmation Message which they must click Reply to This confirms that the user REALLY wants to join the List. and the list is not being Hi-jacked by another Internet user.
Once Confirmed, the user will receive the Welcome Message

CytologyNet@cytology-asc.com
Once a user is a member they can send email to this address. Their message will be sent to all the members of the mailing list.

To Unsubscribe the user sends an email to this address

CytologyNet-index@cytology-asc.com
Returns the list of subjects from the last 100 messages sent to the list.

CytologyNet-index.55_150@cytology-asc.com
Returns a specific range of message subjects (eg: 55 to 150)

CytologyNet-get@cytology-asc.com
Return the full text of the last 10 messages.

CytologyNet-get.77@cytology-asc.com
Returns the full text of a specific message (eg: 77)


Can I sort my CytologyNet e-mail from other e-mail?


Yes. All e-mail messages from the list have the text '[cytologynet]' preceding the subject. You can therefore use tools such as the Rules Wizard (Microsoft Outlook), Message Rules (Microsoft Outlook Express) or similar in other e-mail clients, to identify messages from CytologyNet by this text in the subject line and move the message to a separate folder.
