Pneumocystis carinii (intracystic bodies)

The cysts of Pneumocystis carinii contain up to 8 intracystic bodies (sporozoites). These bodies can be seen in the cytoplasm of macrophages or in the foamy exudate. These bodies are best demonstrated with the giemsa stain.
