Specimen type: Liver FNA.

Clinical History:

  • Female, aged 50
  • Mass identified in liver
  • Elevated AFP levels (12µg/L)
  • Hepatitis B and C antigen negative.
  • No history of cirrhosis or liver disease.

Differential diagnosis...?

  1. benign nodule
  2. primary ca - hepatocellular or variant
  3. metastatic ca

Mass in liver was aspirated under ultrasound guidance.
2 fixed and 2 air-dried slides prepared.
