Specimen type:
Pleural fluid.
Clinical History:
A 58 year old male ex-smoker, with a history of minimal asbestos exposure from telephone cabling work, presented with a pleural effusion and a left axillary nodal mass.Two specimens were submitted to the cytology laboratory - 15mls of bloodstained pleural fluid and a fine needle aspiration specimen from the axillary mass. A cell block was prepared from the pleural fluid.
