Specimen type:
Cerebrospinal fluid.
Clinical History:
A 58 year old female presented with encephalopathy, seizure and white matter disturbance. She had a previous history of liver disease and ataxia.The lab received 5mls of clear CSF. Cytospin preparations stained with Pap and MGG, showed large numbers of round organisms with a thick refractile capsule. No inflammatory cells were present.
