Cerebrospinal fluid.


Clinical History:

A 41 year old male presented with seizures.
The laboratory received a CSF comprising <1ml of clear fluid.

Cytospin preparations contained a small number of single atypical cells with a low nuclear/cytoplasmic ratio. An occasional cluster of cells was noted. These also had a low N/C ratio with a clearly defined cell border. The size of each of the cells seen was larger than a lymphocyte. Some degeneration was evident.
